Press Release 14/11/09
Plans for the 2009-20103YB Moyneyana Festival are falling into place, a busy time for the Committee, with meetings to be held every two weeks. The Festival will commence on Christmas Eve Thursday 24th December on Port Fairy's Village Green, with a Christmas Tree, free BBQ, Presentation winners of the Port Fairy Rotary Club Christmas Lights Competition, Lucky Shopper competition and Best Dressed Christmas Family, entertainment by Port Fairy's Citizens Band, the Port Singers and Tin Shed Singers, and of course a visit from Santa, with show bags for the children.
New Year's Eve will see the running of the Retro Race, with heats taking place at Southcombe Park and main race being run in Sackville Street. Late afternoon there will be spinning wheels run by the Port Fairy Lions Club. There is an opportunity here for a Community Group to run a spining wheel or sell Lucky Envelopes or both; any group interested in doing this should contact our chairman Reg Harry. The committee hopes that plans for Floats for the New Year's Eve Parade are well under way and of course on water bombs, which are really missiles, throwing of such will automatically disqualify the float. There will be stalls around the Village Green, The Plough Boys will entertain the crowds, topping the night off with a Firework Display by Crack-a-Jack at midnight.
The 24 page Free Program is about to be proof read, with the program cover and back page design by students from St Patricks School Port Fairy and the Port Fairy Consolidated School with the theme "Astronomy- The Universe Yours to Discover". We hope to have these programs ready to distribute by mid December.
A new feature sponsored by the Moyne Shire will be their "Living Monument" based on an ongoing event in the UK at Trafalgar Square London preformed on a granite plinth. Participants book a time and stand on their heads for a period of time, play a musical instrument, dance, or recite poetry, etc.
The Port Fairy Belfast Lions Club will hold their annual Art Show opening on December 27th 2009 at the Port Fairy Senior Citizens Club Rooms. The Club will also conduct spinning wheels on Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve, and other days at the Markets at King George Square in aid of various Community Projects.
On New Year's Day the Port Fairy Surf Lifesaving Club will run their popular annual Duck Derby on the beautiful Moyne River at King George Square; also the Classic & Wooden Boats display.
The Moyneyana Program will also feature, outdoor Movies on Port Fairy's Village Green, and at the Reardon Theatre, Handel's "Messiah" at St. John's Anglican Church, Jazz in the Park at Port Fairy's Botanical Gardens. Emergency Services Day, "Go Green" on the Green Environmental Day. There will be a number of CDB Alive Days on the Village Green with Wild Action and other entertainment for children. The popular Children's Entertainment Day is planned for early January 2010. The Committee looks forward to seeing you all enjoying the coming Festive season.
