New Year's Update
The 3YB/Coast FM Moyneyana Festival Committee started to set up stages & our quick Shade on the Village Green at 7.30am in preparation for the New Year's Eve Festivities, very hot too!
The Retro race running lanes were marked out with assistance from the SES, I really do not know how they manage to run so fast backwards! I find it hard enough going forward! One young lady fell but managed to complete the course, the Female winner being Nicole Ankatis from Norway in a time of 21.10secs. The Male winner was Alex Geilings in a time of 13.2secs unofficial world champion & official Aust Champion. Great entertainment.
The Port Fairy Belfast Lions Club held a total of 27 seafood spins & the Port Fairy Surf Life Saving Club had a successful collection with bins; food, ice cream, coffee, novelty, tattoos & jewellery stalls added to atmosphere.
The annual Moyneyana Procession was great with 32 entries & a lot of thought, time & work put into the creation of the floats. Champion Float was Moyne Health Services, winning $500 prize sponsored by All Fresh Seafood's, the Inglis Barbie Memorial Award going to Belfast Rocket winning $250 prize sponsored by 3YB/Coast FM Moyneyana Festival Committee. The Bushwahzee Band gave great entertainment early in the evening, followed by the Plough Boys, who entertained a crowd of about 1000, until the countdown for Midnight & a spectacular fireworks display by Hugh Ryan from Cracker-A-Jack Fireworks.
New Year's Day was fine & cool with the King George Square turned in to a colourful Market place, what a great setting beside the tranquil Moyne River. The Port Fairy Men's Shed were selling raffle tickets, with a prize of a painting of the Moyne River donated & painted by Port Fairy Artist Wilma Preston, money raised will go to the purchase of tools for the Men's Shed, the raffle will be drawn on Australia Day. The Port Fairy Belfast Lions Club held a further 12 seafood spins, 6 in the morning & 6 in the afternoon, with all money raised over the 2 days going to Port Fairy Hospital, a great effort co-ordinated by Lion John Mullany.
There was a record crowd at the Duck Derby, and as usual a fun afternoon, and again a great money raiser for a great club of people who give up their time to keep us safe on the Beach, the Surf Lifesaving Club, well done.
We attended the afternoon session of the Summer Movies at the Reardon Theatre; a screening of "Gran Torino", the second time I have seen it a great movie. How lucky is Port Fairy to have such a venue, and the Summer Movies sponsored by the Moyne Shire Business & Tourism department, thanks to Gail & Peter O'Keefe giving up their time to sell tickets.
Thank you so much for your support.
