3YB Coast FM Moyneyana Festival Christmas Eve Press Release
The 62nd 3YB Coast FM Port Fairy Moyneyana Festival was launched by our enthusiastic Chairman Reg Harry, who welcomed residents & visitors alike to Port Fairy, to enjoy the festivities. There was a great Christmas atmosphere, provided by the Port Singers accompanied by the Port Fairy Citizens Band, singing & playing the traditional Christmas Carols, with carol sheets being provided to the crowd.
I spoke to a young German couple who were holidaying in Australia, spending Christmas in Port Fairy, they were enjoying a very different Christmas, where it is very cold in their homeland at this time of year, but were getting their Christmas spirit by joining in the Carol singing.
The Port Fairy Belfast Lions Club ran a successful number of Toy & Sea Food spins, raising funds for the Make-a-Wish Foundation; other entertainment was provided by Sam the Amazing Suitcase, who was making balloon animals for the children, many kids were getting around with painted faces colourfully done by Christina the Colour Angel, there was also a Merry-Go-Round & a Giant Slide both of which got plenty of use! The Port Fairy Sea Scouts provided the Free Community BBQ & raised some funds by selling soft drinks. Santa & Mrs Santa arrived in style in a beautifully restored left hand drive soft top black Buick, driven by Daryl Jago. Santa had his photo taken with many children, while Mrs Santa & her helpers gave out the Show Bags which were provided by the National Bank Australia who also sponsored the night.
Jill Gleeson President of the Port Fairy Rotary Club, announced & presented prizes to the winners of the Christmas lights competition. Ken Brookes President of the Port Fairy Traders presented prizes for the best dressed families.
Best Dressed Family - 1st Emma Lawton 2nd Madi
Christmas Lights - 1st Greg & Betty Hyland Model Lane, 2nd Hazel & Danny Watts Princes Hwy, 3rd R & J Miller Baden Powell Drive.
Just as we finished packing up, some young children sporting painted faces came up & thanked us for the night which shows we must be doing something right. The Night was a bit cool after the rain earlier in the day with the Committee making plans to hold the night in the Lecture Hall, but the rain stayed away.
Pick up a program from around the many business in town & enjoy the Festival, there is something for everyone.
